MORALES MUSIC

 

A new record company* called 'Morales Music' - the brainchild of international DJ Martin Morales.

 

The brief was to create a brand Identity, designs for CD packaging, printed adverts, artist promo video, etc.

 

The brand ident was based on the communist / propaganda art of China, Russia & Cuba and used a star as the main logo. The style we used takes on the characteristics and features of this form of art including 'Flat Colour' (which was due in part to the technical limitations of hand-cut silk-screen stencils but also a fondness by the artists of this time for this particular graphic treatment), 'Conceptual Abstraction' (which is where this simple art form demonstrates the designer's ability to reduce complex and abstract concepts to simple images) and 'Iconography' (where visual shorthand is used to express a subject - icons included Uncle Sam, the imperial eagle, stylised flags etc).

 

Martin adds "Generally speaking my aim is to have a company that can sign the greatest artists on the planet, develop these and ensure they are proud and happy to be part of Morales Music. It's also about developing a recognisable and cherished company which people will talk about, feel warm towards and excited to recommend their friends about"

 

* Since these designs were submitted Martin turned his attention to The Walt Disney Company where he became a Board Member and Executive Director and is currently Founder and Owner of Ceviche Restaurant.
